Jacamar Club was founded in 2004 by Richard Amable, current Director and main instructor, who with a group of friends, began with bird watching activities, exploring areas where birds congregate in considerable numbers, making census, monitoring, environmental education. with the local population, mainly students.
Now in the 21st century, we continue to monitor birding habitats, conducting birding training programs, tours, training, and expeditions. The team grows by involving great professionals, nobles, and with great skills to share their experience for the good of the community and passion for birds.
2004 – In the city of Puerto Maldonado, Richard Amable together with Carlos Huamani and Miguel Ríos start a group of bird watching and the first steps of Birding in Action Programs. That same year, they met bird watcher Daniel L. Lebbin of Cornell University. Dr. Lebbin encouraged Richard’s team to form an organization to teach bird watching and conservation to the community. Richard began teaching classes to students from public institutes in Puerto Maldonado, ad honorem or free of charge, guided by his passion for bird watching.
